DNA (Missed Appointment) Policy

DNA (Missed Appointment) Policy

When Patients Miss Appointments (DNAs)

We understand that life can sometimes get busy, and it’s easy to forget or miss an appointment. However, Did Not Attend (DNA) appointments can affect other patients and the running of the Practice.

Why Missed Appointments Matter

  • Impact on Others: Every missed appointment means another patient who needed care couldn’t get it.
  • Strain on Resources: Time and resources are lost when an appointment isn’t attended or cancelled, which can affect everyone’s access to services.

Let’s work together to make sure appointments are used effectively, so everyone gets the care they need.

Our DNA Policy

A DNA happens when you miss an appointment without letting us know in advance, or when you cancel so late that we can’t offer the slot to someone else.

First Missed Appointment (DNA 1)

  • We know these things happen unexpectedly. The missed appointment will be noted on your record so we can track patterns.

Second Missed Appointment (DNA 2)

  • If it happens again, we’ll reach out to you to remind you of the missed appointment and the importance of attending or cancelling in time.
  • A note will also appear on your record so receptionists can confirm with you when booking future appointments.
  • We’ll kindly remind you that further missed appointments could affect your ability to pre-book routine appointments in the future.

Third Missed Appointment (DNA 3)

  • If there’s a third missed appointment, we’ll carefully review your case.
  • We may need to adjust how you book appointments going forward, as repeated DNAs can impact the Practice’s ability to provide care for all patients.
  • We’ll always take your circumstances into account and work with you to find a solution.

How to Avoid Missing Appointments

We understand that mistakes happen, but there are easy ways to make sure you don’t miss your appointment:
